October 2020 Ministry Update

We pray this newsletter finds you and your family well. After 5 cancelled flights we were able to charter a flight to the U.S. on August 28th. Landing in an eerily empty Miami airport on a Friday afternoon was another sign of how crazy 2020 is! We have been very thankful to be able to take care of our medical needs. When we flew to the U.S. we knew there was a chance we would not be able to return to Nicaragua before January so we were able to plan ministry accordingly. We have been blessed to be able to continue ministry during the pandemic from our home in Nicaragua and from here in the U.S. The following are examples of ministry that is still going on.

Community of Solingalpa Weekly Bible Study

The Monday afternoon Bible study in Solingalpa is continuing to faithfully meet. Before we flew out we were able to provide them with a workbook series called Study Through the Old Testament. We were really excited to watch the video they sent us on WhatsApp of one of their studies!

Smokeless Stoves for the community of San Dionisio

Thanks to funds provided by Healthy Neighbors International we were able to have 33 smokeless stoves delivered to the church we partner with in the community of San Dionisio. These stoves will benefit them physically by drastically reducing their smoke inhalation and financially by burning wood more efficiently. We would like to say a big thank you to Quevit for overseeing the distribution!

Milagros

Milagros is a 1 1/2 year old little girl with hydrocephalus. She lives in the community of San Dionisio. In 2019 we visited her and her family with the team from Healthy Neighbors International. The family could not afford to travel to Managua for her needed medical treatment. Receiving this treatment gives hope that Milagros will be able to live a normal life. HNI has been providing funds for travel, we have been providing funds for food during the travel, and Quevit has been raising funds from the community to help meet their personal needs. It is sweet how God brings people together from near and far to meet needs of families.

Smokeless stoves for the community of Solingalpa

Healthy Neighbors International also funded the purchase of 33 smokeless stoves for the community of Solingalpa where we partner in ministry. A big thank you goes to Eduardo and the ladies in the Monday Bible study for overseeing the distribution in this community!

Connecting Virtually

We are so thankful for the ability to continue to disciple and encourage our friends in Nicaragua.

West Cabarrus Church Mission House

WCC's founding pastor, Dr. Terry Faulkenbury, had the vision to build a house for missionaries to stay in while on furlough. We have the privilege to be one of the first families to take advantage of this huge blessing! We are staying in the bottom left unit with this beautiful view of the lake! Thank you Pastor Terry and Phyllis and West Cabarrus Church!!!

West Cabarrus Church Missions Conference

On Nov.4 we had the privilege of sharing about ministry in Nicaragua during the morning service at West Cabarrus, our home church. This was part of their Mission Focus Week. We are very thankful for the prayers and support of this mission-minded church!

Enjoying Fall

We haven't seen Fall in 9 years so we have really enjoyed this season with our family!

Prayer Requests

One of our biggest prayer needs right now is the renewal of our residency. Our 1 year residency expired on Sept.13th. We were all prepared to renew for a 5 year residency when we found out last minute that the Nicaraguan non-profit we are umbrellaed by did not receive their renewal. We are in the process of trying to find another non-profit to help us. New regulations by the government are making this difficult. As in all things, we know God is in the details.

Another prayer request is for our travel plans. Due to regulations on airlines set by the Nicaraguan government associated with Covid, commercial flights into the country have not resumed. We will be staying in N.C. until the 1st of January. We are praying for regular flights to resume by then.

As we are getting ready to send this out a hurricane is set to hit Nicaragua. Our prayers are with our friends and the all the people in Nicaragua and the surrounding countries.

How You Can Help
